Recreational Rappelling

Location: Tinamaste, Costa Rica

The four-day course is based on international best practice, including the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council’s abseil instruction resources and covers how to lead group rappeling (abseiling) activities in a recreational context. It includes knots, environmental care, rope physics, technical equipment, anchoring, rappeling, contingency/releasable anchor systems, belaying, coaching new rappellers, emergency drills, ascending, risk management and site management.

This course is aimed at recreational users only and not suitable for public safety or industrial rope access. For those who already hold Technical Rope Rescue Technician Level (TRRTL), Rope Rescue Operator (RRO), or above, we offer a two-day upgrade course. Students may have the opportunity to go on and complete certification as a Recreational Rappel Instructor (RECROI) with Rescue 3 International.

Rope Rescue 1 (Operator)

Location: Lake City, CO

Dates: April 23-26

The Rope Rescue Operator (RRO) course introduces the knowledge and skills required by personnel to operate safely and effectively during rope rescues and be an active part of a rope rescue team working under the supervision of Rope Rescue Technicians.

Rope Rescue Instructor Course

Location: Durango, CO

Dates: June 12-14

The Rope Rescue Technician Instructor (RRTI) course covers the teaching of concepts and techniques to enable small teams to undertake technical rope rescues. A building block approach is used throughout the course so that candidates can progress from key concepts through to the rigging and operation of full systems for raising, lowering and highline rescues.

Rope Rescue 1 (Operator)

Location: Farmington, NM

Dates: July 27-30

Rope Rescue Technician

This course is an upgrade course that can be taken individually to recertify a Rescue 3 Technician course, or it can be taken along with the RRO
